Nov. 24, 2004: replaced with earlier copy. My previous copy (black EmArcy label, MG36070 A-2 FF S on Side-A, MG 36070B MF1 MSI A8 I FF-S on Side-B) sounded so terrible - Side-A was one of the worst I had ever heard.

Inside The Groove

It's the first album for Brown-Roach Quintet with Sonny Rollins on tenor sax (another one is “Sonny Rollins Plus Four” on Prestige label).

Personal Impression (and brief notes)

This album is one of the classic “Hard-Bop” albums without any doubts. Well organized but very emotional ensemble. And of course too brilliant melodies by Clifford Brown... very impressive.

“Modern Jazz” is NOT equal to this album; of course there are so many variations and aspects in one of the hottest era of Jazz. However, it is also true that this album represents one of the best recordings of Hard Bop when it was on the top of the mountain.

Anyway, as many people have said, every note Clifford Brown has left us is precious. All of us should go further - get Complete EmArcy Recordings :)
