Comments

pressed by the 2nd stamper: the disc has several scratches, but plays rather fine.

A-1 and A-2 also issued on 16009 (78rpm) and 16009x45 (45rpm).

B-4 also issued on Mercury 8272 (78rpm).

All tunes are also available on EP-1-6034 and EP-1-6035.

These eight tunes will be included in the 12-inch LP MG-36027, plus four tunes from different session.

Inside The Groove

A great session by “The Vice Pres”, backed up with Count Basie and his pals.

Personal Impression (and brief notes)

As the album title says, Paul Quinichette is called “The Vice Pres”, as his play reminds us of “The Pres”, Lester Young. Of course he is not just a clone of Lester Young, but he has much influences of Benny Carter. And of course, he also has “modern” taste.

In this album, compiled from his several Mercury sessions, Paul Quinichette plays so mellow and smooth, Backing-up stuffs are all Basie-related fellows (including Basie himself of course). Among them, A-3 is a very swingy tune. I love this one very much.

A very nice mainstream jazz album.

Strictly Personal Rating (to what extent I could enjoy this album)

9 out of 10
