MG-36028: After Hours With Miss “D” / Dinah Washington

[Front Cover] Label Type : blue EmArcy type B
Matrix Number : SIDE-A MG36028A MF2    A1    I
SIDE-B MG36028B MF2    A2    I

Comments

B-3 and B-4 were previously issued on EmArcy 16014 (78rpm) and 16014x45 (45rpm).

The label don't have silver “ring” rim printed - I believe the very first variation should have silver rim on the label (with MF1 suffix on dead wax stamper), but I haven't encountered with such copies yet.

Inside The Groove

A 12-inch version of Dinah Washington's legendary session on EmArcy, featuring all tracks of MG-26032.

Personal Impression (and brief notes)

A-3 and B-3 are from June 17, 1953 session, featuring moody tenor sax of Paul Quinichette and Jackie Davis' hammond organ - nice tracks.

A-4 and B-4 are from February 5, 1954 session, featuring Eddie Chamblee (Dinah's future husband), who plays very saxy and earthy tenor sound.

A-1, A-2, B-1 and B-2 are from June 15, 1954 session (which became The Queen Dinah's early Jazz session on EmArcy label) which firstly made public on MG-26032 10-inch (see this 10-inch page for more details). Definitely the highlight of the entire album.

Strictly Personal Rating (to what extent I could enjoy this album)

9 out of 10
