Personal Impression (and brief notes)

Maynard Ferguson, better known as “Hi-note hitter”, later became famous and popular with his orchestra. In his early years, just after his departure from Stan Kenton band, he had left gems of great West-Coast style jazz ensemble, some by small combo, some by large sections. This is one of them.

All eight tunes on this 10-inch album are well arranged and much thrilling, but among of all I love four tunes on Side-A most. Ferguson's “Hi-note hitting” isn't too gimmick-like in this album, but he plays great Jazz trumpet from the bottom of his heart. The rest of members seen here are all well-known West-Coast musicians, some from Kenton band, some from Herman band, some from others.
