MG-26024: Dimensions Featuring Maynard Ferguson
Commentsmedium water damage around the top seam of the back cover. pressed by the 2nd stamper: the disc has several scratches, but playing grade is not so bad. A-3 and B-3 also issued on 16002 (78rpm) and 16002x45 (45rpm). A-4 and B-4 also issued on 16013 (78rpm) and 16013x45 (45rpm). All tunes are also available on EP-1-6038 and EP-1-6039. These eight tunes will be included in the 12-inch LP MG-36044, plus four tunes from different session. Inside The GrooveA great West-Coast style modern jazz recording with thrilling arrangements. Personal Impression (and brief notes)Maynard Ferguson, better known as “Hi-note hitter”, later became famous and popular with his orchestra. In his early years, just after his departure from Stan Kenton band, he had left gems of great West-Coast style jazz ensemble, some by small combo, some by large sections. This is one of them. All eight tunes on this 10-inch album are well arranged and much thrilling, but among of all I love four tunes on Side-A most. Ferguson's “Hi-note hitting” isn't too gimmick-like in this album, but he plays great Jazz trumpet from the bottom of his heart. The rest of members seen here are all well-known West-Coast musicians, some from Kenton band, some from Herman band, some from others. A must-be for West-Coast Jazz lovers. Strictly Personal Rating (to what extent I could enjoy this album)9 out of 10 Track Listing
