MG-26032: After Hours With Miss “D” / Dinah Washington
Commentspressed by the late stamper: the disc has several scuffs and scratches, but still plays excellent. All tunes are also available on EP-1-6054 and EP-1-6055. These four tunes will be included in the 12-inch LP MG-36028, plus another four tunes from 1953-1954 session. Inside The GrooveDinah Washington's legendary session featuring awesome singing of “Blue Skies”. Personal Impression (and brief notes)In her 1940s and early 1950s, Dinah recorded mostly Blues tracks. But around 1954, when the Jazz subsidiary EmArcy label was started, she started to record jazzy tracks with jazz musicians. Of course, Dinah always sounded like Dinah, whatever song she singed. One of her earliest Jazz session would be June 1954 sessions featuring Paul Quinichette, followed by some Blues/Popular sessions. Then in the middle 1954, she tried another great jazzy session. Among all recorded tracks, A-1 “Blue Skies” may be the best track - her emotional singing is awesome as always, while his backing musicians plays a good amount of solos which are also attractive. BTW this A-1 is an edited version - unedited complete version became public on Mercury 40th Anniversary V.S.O.P. Album in 1984 (now also available on recent CD reissue Verve B000009402). Other tracks are also fascinating without any doubts. Strictly Personal Rating (to what extent I could enjoy this album)10 out of 10 Track Listing
