MG-36108: Jazz In Three-Quarter Time / Max Roach Plus Four
CommentsEquivalent release: EmArcy SR-80002 (stereo). However, SR-80002 lacks two tracks, “The Most Beautiful Girl In The World” and “Blues Waltz”, which are included on MG-36108. Later reissued as Mercury MG-20538 (mono) and Mercury SR-60193 (stereo), but it is very doubtful that these 2nd issue was actually released. Inside The GrooveMax Roach Plus Four's 2nd EmArcy LP, featuring all “3/4” time tracks. Personal Impression (and brief notes)After Clifford Brown's sudden tragic passaway in 1956, Max Roach soon formed his next band “Max Roach Plus Four”, featuring Kenny Dorham on trumpet and Sonny Rollins on tenor sax. Since then, the “Plus Four” band regularly changed its members but was active in the late 1950s and early 1960s. This LP, “Plus Four”'s 2nd EmArcy album, features waltz tracks. It is amazing the even with the waltz rhythm they surely plays boppish jazz and very challenging. Strictly Personal Rating (to what extent I could enjoy this album)8 out of 10 Track Listing
