It is a great pleasure and honour for me that I (not an avid Classical vinyl collector at all but just very enthusiastic for researching on a specific label) could do a little contribution to this book (just released in Sep. 2008) by Horst Scherg-san from Germany.

ドイツの Horst Scherg さんによる、2008年9月に発行されたばかりの本書に、微力ながら貢献できたことを嬉しく光栄に思います。実は私自身はコレクターとしてはある特定のレーベル研究が専門であり、クラシック LP のコアなコレクターでは全然ないのですが (笑)

Horst-san e-mailed me for the first time sometime in the summer of 2006, who asked me several questions about Mercury Living Presence LP releases. Since then, we exchanged several e-mails, and I provided discographical information as well as dozens of scanned images of LP cover arts (from my own collection) in high resolution.

Horst さんが最初にメールでコンタクトを取ってこられたのは 2006年の8月頃のことで、Mercury Living Presence の LP リリースに関する質問でした。それから、何度もメールで情報交換をし、ディスコグラフィー的情報を教えてあげたり、私のコレクションの中から数10枚分のジャケットを高解像度でスキャンして送ってあげたりしました。

Today I received an international parcel which included this beautiful book – the publishing company Gestalten kindly sent me an complimentary copy. And I found some of these scanned images I provided can be found on this beautiful art book. I’d like to say thank you so much, Horst-san and all the staffs of Gestalten!

そして本日、国際小包が届き、本書を受けとりました。ありがたいことに、出版社である Gestalten が献本として本書を下さったのでした。とても美しい本書の中に、私が提供したスキャン画像が使われているのを確認することができました。 Horst さん、Gestalten のスタッフの皆さん、本当にありがとうございます。

This book is an awesome exhibition of beautiful Classical LP cover artworks from the 1950s to the 1980s, “The Golden Age of Long Playing Vinyl Records and LP Cover Artworks” – which makes this book so special and unique in my opinion, because this book should appeal not only to avid and hardcore vintage LP collectors but also to many people who love fine arts.

本書は、1950年代から1980年代まで (「LP レコードとレコードジャケットの黄金時代」とでも言えるでしょうか) にリリースされた、クラシック音楽 LP の美しいカバージャケットの展覧会とも言える素晴らしい内容で、単にヴィンテージ LP コレクターだけにとどまらず、良質の美術書として一般の方にも十分アピールするものだと思います。

Every chapter of this book is dedicated to the diversity and variety of graphical trends and musical genres through the decades found on each LP cover artwork. It also covers brief history of each Classical labels which should be very helpful for people who wish to start collecting vintage Classical LPs. Please note, this book costs rather expensive (48 Euros / 78 US Dollars) maybe because this is a full colour, gorgeous hard-cover book. Anyway you will not be disappointed.

各章では、何十年間にも渡ってさまざまに変化してきたジャケットのデザイントレンドや、各種クラシック音楽ジャンルなどに基づいてジャケットが紹介されています。また、主要レコードレーベルの歴史についても触れられており、これからクラシックのヴィンテージ LP の蒐集を始めようと思っている方には参考になると思います。全ページカラーの豪華ハードカバー本なので、お値段がはる (48ユーロ / 78 US ドル) のが難点ではありますが、レコードファンにとっては良い美術書だと思います。
