ちなみに、私が最初に購入した盤 (フランス盤) のジャケットはこんな感じです。 こちらの方が、少なくとも、よっぽど「クラシックの LP」っぽくありませんか?

BTW this is the jacket of the French LP version (which I bought first) – ain’t it look better as a “Classical LP” anyway?

それはさておき、2年ほど前に、この後者のフランス盤 (ジャケットの感じからして多分 1970年代後半〜1980年代初頭のリリースではないかと思いますが) を中古で購入し、内容が気に入って愛聴していました。しかも音も非常に良い。これのオリジナル盤ってどれだろう . . . と探していて、今回前者のイギリス盤を入手したのでした。

I bought the latter edition (French LP version) a few years ago – judging from the textures of the jacket cover, I guess it was late 1970s-early 1980s pressing. Soon I came to love this album, since the performance was great to listen to, and what’s more, I found the sound quality of this album so nice. Then I looked for the original issue of this album – then finally, recently I found and bought the former edition (UK LP version).

A面が Erik Satie (サティ)、B面が Darius Milhaud (ミヨー) の作品集。どちらの面も、肩肘張らない小粋な作品集です。A面では冒頭の Les Aventures de Mercure (“The Adventures of Mercury”、「メルキューレ」) のウキウキする流れが素敵です。B面全部を費やした Saudades do Brazil (「ブラジルの郷愁」) は、ミヨーが 1917〜1918年に過ごしたブラジルでの想い出を綴った作品で、ミヨーお得意の (?) 複調的ハーモニーの独特の響きが印象的です。

Side-A contains three compositions by Erik Satie, while on the flip side Darius Milhaud‘s suite is featured. “Les Aventures de Mercure” (“The Adventures of Mercury”) is very refreshing suite – delightful and joyful composition. Side-B, a long suite “Saudades do Brazil” is Milhaud’s nostalgic memories of Brazil – the result of Milhaud’s sojourns through Brazil in 1917 and 1918. Each component of the suite is quite impressive with polytonal harmonies here and there.

マルチマイク録音 (Phase 4 Stereo については こちら を参照のこと) ではありますが、そのミキシングが実に見事で、各楽器がはっきりくっきり聞こえる上に、最前列でカブりついて聴いているかの様なリアリティ溢れる録音です。コレクターからは Blueback 以外は見向きもされない (?) 感もありますが、さすが Decca、いつの時代もレベルの高い録音でホレボレします。フランス盤でもかなりいい音が楽しめますが、透明感や残響音の感じ、そして空気感は、やはり圧倒的にイギリス盤が上でした。

Though this was a multi-microphone recordings (see this page for Phase 4 Stereo), the mixing is well done – each instrument is very clear and vivid, and there is a splended reality as if listening to the live recording in front of the audience seats. Many Classical collectors only look for Blueback era, but Decca has been always Decca – they have presented a series of great recordings in any period. Even the French LP edition sounds so good, but the UK vinyl sounds far better – the transparency, the atmosphere and the soundstage can’t be better than the UK vinyl edition!
