二才児が聴いても楽しめ、音楽好きの大人が毎日聴かされても全く飽きることのない、UA さんによる良質のコンセプトアルバム的名盤です。子供の有無に関わらず、全日本人必聴ともいえます。

This CD album is a kind of “masterpiece” with good conception – my two-years-old daughter loves to listen to this every day, and I as a music addict won’t get bored even I have to listen with her every day. It can also be said that every Japanese, whether he/she has a child or not, should listen to this album.

2003年〜2005年に NHK 教育テレビで放送されていた「ドレミノテレビ」という番組をご覧になっていた方もいらっしゃるかもしれません。UA さん扮するうたのお姉さん「ううあ」が、派手な衣装を着て不思議な振り付けで踊ったり、孤高のパーカッショニスト 山口とも さん扮する「ともとも」が子供と一緒にガラクタなどで楽器演奏したり、とにかく「小学校1～2年生向け音楽教育番組」というタテマエを笑い飛ばすかのようなシュールでファンキーでゴキゲンな番組でした。うちの娘がまだ影も形もない頃、この番組を大人だけで楽しんでいました。

Have you ever watched the NHK Educational TV program “ドレミノテレビ (Do-Re-Mi No TV)”, which was broadcasted from 2003 to 2005? It was an amazing TV program both for kids and adults – the one-and-only singer UA dances and sings with colourful and bizarre dress, while the second-to-none percussionist plays junks, dustboxes, woodpieces & many other daily things like a set of percussion with kids. Anyway it was a surrealistic, funky and superb TV program – it’s still hard to believe that it was a music education program dedicated for 1st/2nd grade elementary school children. Years before my daughter was born, I often enjoyed watching this TV program with my wife.

番組内で歌われていた歌は、基本的に国内外の良く知られた童謡ばかりなのですが、原曲のメロディの良さを一切崩すことなく、かつ原曲のイメージも可能な限り損なうことなく、しかし子供に媚びた様な手抜き打ち込みアレンジばかりで飽き飽きしているであろう大人にとっては、まさに奇跡の様なアレンジといえます。

Most of the songs in the TV program are well-known traditional folk songs from Japan, Europe and America. However, it should be noted that the arrangements were superb like a miracle – without spoiling the essence of beautiful melodies on these folk songs – without spoiling fantastic images of well-known arrangements – but without typical scamping arrangements which sounds like adults flattering children.

Little Creatures の 鈴木正人さん と 青柳拓次さん、 Buffalo Daughter の大野由美子さん、 内橋和久さん、 スカパラオリジナルメンバーの ASA-CHANG さん、 その他大勢のメンバーが参加しているとなると、世界中の芳醇な音楽的バックグラウンドに裏打ちされつつもエレクトロニカ的テイストも見え隠れする「大人」のアレンジも頷けます。

Masato Suzuki and Takuji Aoyagi (of Little Creatures); Yumiko Ohno (of Buffalo Daughter); Kazuhisa Uchibashi; ASA-CHANG (founder of Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra) and many more – looking at these names on the liner-notes, we are now convinced why this CD album sounds great with a very mature arrangements based on various kinds of music from all around the world, plus a bit taste of Electronica.

奇をてらいすぎて原曲からあまりにもかけ離れたアレンジなどが一切なく、あくまで我々が子供の頃から慣れ親しんできた (そしていつの頃からか学校やテレビで聴くのがつまらなくなり飽き飽きしてきた) あの楽曲の延長線上にあり、もともと原曲に備わっている魅力の再発見、更に新しい魅力の付加、そのどちらにも成功していると言えます。その魅力の最前線にあるのは UA さんの唯一無二のヴォーカルであることは言うまでもありません。

This album doesn’t contain a single garbage track with excessive arrangements just to attract attention. It’s a natural and reasonable extension to well-known traditional folk songs which we have got used since our childhood (and sometimes had enough). These great tunes are results of re-discovering the fascinations of old songs as well as adding extra charms to them in this 21st century. And it’s one-and-only UA’s vocal which makes this album so special.

この CD は娘の2歳の誕生日プレゼント、という名目にかこつけて今年9月に購入しました。実はテレビ放送が行われていた2004年頃、いちど買おうとしたことがあったのですが、その当時はなんと CCCD でしか販売されていませんでしたので購入しませんでした。現在は無事通常の CD でリリースされています。

I bought this CD as a two-years-old birthday present for my daughter (or her birthday would be an excuse to buy this). Anyway in 2004, when the TV program was still broadcasted, I once wanted to buy the album, but I didn’t, as the album was available only in CCCD format at that time! Fortunately, now we have a regular CD version.

うちでは毎朝9時頃になると、子供がスピーカーの前に立ち、親の方を見ながら「うあしゃん、あるーひー、うあしゃん」と訴えてきます。「『あるーひ、もりのなかー』で始まる『森のくまさん』が一曲目に配されたうあしゃん (UAさん) の CD かけてくれ」という意味だと思われます。アンパンマンのサントラや、「おかあさんといっしょ」やアニメソング、ヒーローものの歌がトホホなアレンジで大量に詰め込まれたチープな謎 CD ばかり聴かされる拷問に比べたら、UA さんのこの CD はどんなに助かることでしょう。

At around 9 AM, my daughter always go in front of loudspeakers, looking at me, asking for this UA’s CD. It’s like a heaven to me – otherwise I have to listen to Anpanman’s soundtrack CD and other kids song CDs – most of which with garbage arrangements and I can’t withstand listening to them all the time!

本当は、1920〜30年代の Duke Ellington や、1940年代の Coleman Hawkins や、Atlantic 時代の Roland Kirk や、Frank Zappa の “The Yellow Shark” や、全盛期の James Brown でノリノリに踊ってくれる方が嬉しいのですが、それはおいおいということで。。。。

To tell the truth, as a parent, I would be happier if my daughter dances and sings along with such music as Duke Ellington in the 1920-30s, Coleman Hawkins in the 1940s, Rokand Kirk on Atlantic, Frank Zappa’s “The Yellow Shark”, James Brown’s golden Funk era etc., but it might be too early for her to appreciate them….
