1968年4月5日、キング牧師暗殺の翌日にボストン・ガーデンで行われたジェームス・ブラウンのコンサートは、市内の暴動を助長する恐れから開催が危ぶまれましたが、市長との話し合いにより解決。ライブはボストン市内のテレビとラジオで生中継されたのち何度も再放送され、結果として市内での暴動を食い止めました。
