この Intro レーベルって、あのハリウッドの Intro ですよね? Aladdin レーベルの傍系レーベルで、Jazz ファンには Art Pepper の大名盤 “Modern Art” で知られる、あの Intro レーベル。 ところがこのレーベルは本来はカントリー専用レーベルだったんですね。

Ole Tex Kringle c/w My Little Red Wagon / Doye O’Dell

この Doye O’Dell というミュージシャンは、web で検索した限りでは、どうも映画俳優としても有名なんだそうですが、少なくともこの盤については最高にゴキゲンな演奏と歌唱を聴かせてくれます。さて、この 1951年録音の SP、A面の “Ole Tex Kringle” は Tex Ritter でも有名な、カントリー調のクリスマスナンバー。“Winter Wonderland” のコード進行を借りて、ウキウキするような演奏と声が印象的です。B面は Hank Penny で有名な曲のカバー。こちらもフィドルとスティールギターがいい味を出しています (スティールギターは多分 Speedy West の演奏でしょう)。

The leader Doye O’Dell was, according to the web search results, also a famous actor on many movies. However, at least for my years, his singing and playing is terrific. On this 78rpm (recorded in 1951), Side-A “Ole Tex Kringle” is a country version of Chrismas song (Tex Ritter version is also famous), with the chord progression of “Winter Wonderland” – which sounds so swingy and wonderful. The flip side, “My Little Red Wagon”, is a cover version of Hank Penny’s famous song, on which a very nice steel-guitar is fully featured (probably it was played by Speed West).

この Intro レーベル、他にもなかなか充実したカントリーの SP が盛りだくさんの様ですので、今後も注目していきたいと思います。

This Intro label seems to hold many more good Country & Western performances – I’ll keep looking for other 78rpms on this label.
