Like Someone In Love / Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers What Rudy Van Gelder Did “Wrong” (Phil Freeman, Reverb.com) >>> Mastering engineer Steve Hoffman infamously wrote on his own website, “Take…Posted by Kohji Matsubayashi on Sunday, July 26, 2020
Liberty of Congress より。
I came across an very interesting video on the Internet – the living legend Sam Davies, who worked as an engineer at Decca in the 1960s and now doing restoration/maintenance of vintage studio equipments (cutting lathes, reel-to-reel playback tape machines, all vacuum tube amplifiers, etc), introduces his vintage cutting chain (by Ortofon/Lyrec, 1965) which he actually uses for reissuing vintage vinyl LP records.
If you are into Jazz music, especially into the golden age of Modern Jazz, you should know the name of the engineer Roy DuNann, who did so many masterpiece recordings for Capitol and Contemporary in the 1940s, 1950s and thrugh the early 1960s.
On February 3, 1932, world’s fist “accidental” stereo recording was made – by Duke Ellington Orch.
I have introduced various old record catalogues in my previous articles (see “Old Record Catalogues” articles, Part 1, 2, 3, and 4, although they are currently written only in Japanese), and some articles also featured qutations from disc reviews and ads on Down Beat magazine back issues which I have. Actually it’s always fun and interesting to read from pages to pages, ads to ads, reviews to reviews – such magazines and newspapers of many many years ago still delivers atmosphere of that era, working like “time capsules” of when Jazz was one of the driving forces in the Popular music. Other than that, they are full of invaluable information which is very useful for discographic purpose.
