苦節うん年。夢にまで見たアルバムをやっと入手しました。
Finally, I have acquired the famous 78rpm album which I’d been dreaming of for several years.

実際のリリースから随分と間があいてしまいましたが、 昨年リリースされて そこそこ好評だった ユニバーサル ”JAZZ THE BEST ”LPコレクション の第2弾がこの夏リリースされました。
In last year, Universal Music Japan released a bunch of fine Jazz LP reissues entitled Universal “JAZZ THE BEST” LP Collection, most of which were highly acclaimed by vinyl enthusiasts. To follow the success, Universal Japan released another bunch of LP reissues this summer.
今回の復刻にあたり、岡村融さんを通じて UCJU-9031 / UCJU-9034 / UCJU-9043 と 3枚に関して、光栄にも貢献することができました (復刻の元となるオリジナルジャケットとレーベルの貸出)。 また、UCJU-9025 や UCJU-9039 といった EmArcy 原盤については、ファーストプレスのチェックポイントを指摘しました (ジャケット裏の印刷色やレーベルの微妙な特徴など)。
It was my great pleasure that, thru the famous Tohru Okamura-san, I could do a bit of contribution upon some of these LP reissues – lent the 1st pressing copies of UCJU-9031, UCJU-9034 and UCJU-9043 to the Universal Music Japan for reproduction purpose; also pointed out the detailed checkpoints of reproducing EmArcy LPs such as UCJU-9025 and UCJU-9039 (colour of the ink on the back cover, detailed design of the centre label, for example).
出来上がった製品の見本盤を 9月下旬に頂きましたが、相変わらず細やかな配慮が感じられる良質のリイシューで、特に UCJU-9031 や UCJU-9034 では、当時リリースされたオリジナル盤ではなし得なかった音質を獲得するに至っていると感じました。
In last September, I received the sample copies of the products. And I found that this 2nd series of the LP reissue project was also fascinating kind as well as 1st series. Especially, on such titles as UCJU-9031 and UCJU-9034, I feel that the brand-new-cut discs can deliver very detailed and beautiful sounds which even the original 1st pressing copies did not have.

レコードコレクターにもいろんなタイプがある訳で、著名なミュージシャンの、評価が高くびっくりする程高価なオリジナル盤を買い漁る人 (骨董品コレクター的な人と言えるでしょう)もいれば、人知れず埋もれた安くてほとんど知られていない盤の中から自分のお気に入りの音楽を「発見」して悦に入る人 (強いて言えば「オタク系」でしょうかね) もいます。金にものを言わせる前者だけのコレクター諸氏は個人的には正直苦手 (音楽聴いてんだか「もの」を買ってるんだかよう分からんやないですか。そういう手合いに限って、聴いてる音楽のジャンルや対象が狭くて、音楽の話をしても全然おもろないし) ですが、まあ人それぞれ両者のバランスをとって楽しんでいるのでしょう。
それはさておき、特に後者の愉しみというのは本当に格別なものがあります。なにしろ、星の数ほども世の中に残っている盤の中から、聞いたこともないグループやミュージシャンのシングルを格安で拾いあげ、祈るような気持ちでターンテーブルに乗せて、流れてくる音楽がストライクゾーンだったときの喜びといったら! その楽曲が、そのミュージシャンが、世間でどういう評価をされていようが (あるいはされてなかろうが)、巷では有名であろうが無名であろうが、買って聴く自分自身にとっては新しいものであり、良さを「発見」したことに他ならないのですからね。また、今の世の中、web であれリサーチ本であれ、こういったマイナーなミュージシャンの情報を探すことだって出来ます。安値で買って、聴いて気に入って (まぁ期待外れのものも少なからずあるわけですが)、調べてなお唸ることが出来る。なんてリーズナブルな悦楽でありましょう。
というわけで (?) このサイトでも、私がそうやって購入してきたシングル盤を思いついた時に紹介していこうと思います。ただ、私の あっちのサイト との関係上、そのレーベルのものが多くなってしまいますが、ご了承下さい。
Continue reading言うまでもなく、ジャズドラムの可能性を極限まで引き出し、新たな世界を確立することに成功した巨人 Max Roach。戦後ジャズ史に燦然と輝く多数の名演奏を残した Brown=Roach Quintet 時代や、1960年代のアメリカという時代を反映した諸作に勢い評価が傾きがちですが、1970年代以降の作品にも注目すべき作品は少なくありません。
The Jazz Giant Max Roach was, of course, one of the most important Jazz drummers who explored the possibilities of drumming. His greatest works include the legendary Brown=Roach Quintet, and his numerous works in the 1960s which reflects the atmosphere of the 1960’s USA. However in the 1970s, he recorded several albums which were also far above his average.

誰にでも、自分にとって特別な意味を持つアルバムというのがあるでしょう。例えば、個人的な想い出とリンクしているアルバムだったり、音楽にのめり込むきっかけを与えてくれたアルバムだったり。そんな中に「自分の生まれた年月日に録音されたアルバム」というのもあったりします。
Everybody may have his/her special album(s) of his/her own – for example, an album which closely link to his/her personal events and memories, an album which gave him/her a huge impact to let him/her get involved into music. And there are some more – such as “an album which was recorded on the same day in the same year when I was born”.

Rhino Handmade, a renowned label recognized for its numerous invaluable limited-edition CDs, has been satisfying the desires of hardcore collectors since its inception in 1999. This project is a standout endeavor by Rhino Records. Over the years, there have been countless titles on my wish list that I’ve been unable to obtain. Here’s a look at the latest release from the Rhino Handmade label, which I was fortunate enough to purchase recently.
Continue readingつい先日、LP ラック を買い足しました。その際、段ボール箱に入れて保管していたレコードを整理しましたが、ここ数年手にとっていなかった盤を手にとっては、その盤にまつわる個人的な想い出が次々と脳裏をかけめぐり、整理は滞りがちになってしまいました。これもそんな一枚。記憶が正しければ、1994年の夏に大阪日本橋の某中古レコード屋で購入したものです。
The other day I bought yet another LP stocker. After the built of the stocker was complete, I started to readjust my LP collection (stocked in the cardboard boxes) to re-stock in this new stocker. During the procedure, I took every LP in my hand, thinking of very personnal memory with the record from one after another, which prevented me from very smooth task to store the records. This LP is one of them – as far as I remember, I bought this album in the summer of 1994 at a certain shop in Nipponbashi, Osaka.

Blue Note レーベルにおいて Sonny Rollins, Jackie McLean, Joe Henderson, Freddie Hubbard といったアーティストと共演し、同レーベルに唯一のリーダーアルバム “Basra” (Blue Note BLP-4205/BST-84205, CD リイシュー) を残した Pete ‘LaRoca’ Sims。 その独特のタイミング/リズムセンスで個性的なドラミングを披露したスタイリストの、 引退直前の 1967年に Douglas レーベルに残したリーダーアルバムです (1979年に復帰されますが)。
Pete ‘La Roca’ Sims is a drummer who played with such artists as Sonny Rollins, Jackie McLean, Joe Henderson, Freddie Hubbard (all on Blue Note label), and who also left his leader album “Basra” (Blue Note BLP-4205/BST-84205, CD reissue). This LP, presented here, is the last leader album on Douglas label by the unique drum stylist with refreshing rhythmic/timing sense, just before he decided to leave music in 1968 (BTW he came back playing Jazz in 1979).

以前ここで紹介した Shiny Stockings / Barney Kessel (LOB Japan LDC-1004, 1977年 5月発売) に続き、1977年 7月にリリースされた LOB レーベルのアルバム。 やはり同じくダイレクトカッティング盤で、2,500枚限定発売です。
This LP by Ann Burton (originally out in July 1977), was a following release of Shiny Stockings / Barney Kessel (LOB Japan LDC-1004, May 1977), which I mentioned on this web a while ago. Like B. Kessel album, this LP is also direct-cutting disc and released in limited numbers (2,500) only.

He’s Funny That Way / Ann Burton この2枚組アルバムを購入するのは実は 2組目です。昨年夏に某所で購入したのですが、1枚目の LP にヒビが入っていた (しかも seller は交換に応じてくれなかった…とほほ) ため、もう 1組買う羽目になったのでした。
This is my 2nd copy I obtained recently – I bought the 1st copy in last summer at a certain auction site, but when I received the parcel, I noticed that the disc 1 was broken during the transit (what was worse, the seller completely ignored my e-mail to ask him for return…). So I had to find and buy another copy which was actually playable.
