本稿は、The Afrofunk Music Forum に 2006年に掲載された David McDavitt 氏の記事「The Fela/James Brown Connection」を、ご本人の許可を得て日本語翻訳したものです。 This article is a Japanese translation of 2006 article by Mr. David McDavitt, entitled “The Fela/James Brown Connection”. Tennis and vinyl records

2014年USオープンテニスの男子決勝戦の組み合わせは、なんとなんと、錦織圭（ランキング11位、第10シード）対 マリン・チリッチ（ランキング16位、第14シード）となりました！果たして今回が、フェデラー、ナダル、ジョコビッチ、マレーのビッグ4による10年にもなる独占状態の終わりの始まりとなるのでしょうか？ Kei Nishikori versus Marin Cilic Final at the 2014 US Open! Will be the beginning of the end of the long domination by the Big Four? (Federer=Nadal=Djokovic=Murray) Time will tell.   ところで、「テニスとレコード」というと、何を思い浮かべますでしょうか？「レコード」といっても「記録」ではなく、いわゆる LP レコードのことです。 By the way, what would come in your mind if you think of “Tennis and Records?” I mean, tennis and vinyl records. Flat Foot Floogie (with a Floy-Floy)

My six-years-old daughter, whose best favourite tune so far is “That’s A Plenty”, recently found another favourite tune of her own – it’s “Flat Foot Floogie” – maybe I’m not a good daddy to her… 「That’s A Plenty」に続き、よりによって娘の愛聴曲となってしまったのが「Flat Foot Floogie」。ここ数日は常に鼻歌で歌っている始末です。。。きっと私は悪い親なんでしょう（笑）

Jazz Tunes entitled “Hiroshima” and “Nagasaki”

Albert Ammons による「Nagasaki」(1936) と「Hiroshima」（1947) という名曲。前者は1928年作、後者はその改題バージョンです。いずれも名曲名演なのですが、「長崎」「広島」というタイトルや、その経緯を知れば知るほど、毎年8月になると思い出してしまいます。

Get On Up: The James Brown Story (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)

It’s a real pity – we can’t see the movie until next spring in Japan – get on up! All I can do so far is to listen to the Original Soundtrack album, watching the official trailers, seeking and reading the reviews online, etc… 日本では、来春公開予定とのこと。。。とても待ちきれません。サントラCDを聴いたり、予告編を観たり、オンラインでレビューを探して読みあさったりが関の山。

Jim Hall さんの2014年1月の来日を楽しみにされていた方は私だけではないはず。こんなにも早く、お別れになってしまうなんて。最近は少し体調を崩されていたとのことですが、自宅ベッドで眠るように亡くなられたとのこと。。。
