Uniquities Vol. 1 + 2 / Jim Hall (ArtistShare)

ArtistShare で昨年予告されていた待望のアルバム。2012年6月、Jim Hall 翁が来日した際のライブ音源、CD 2枚組ですが、ついに先月手元に届きました。

貴重な音源、相も変わらず素晴らしい演奏内容。本当に最高です。この時のライブに行けなかったのが悔やまれます。。。

Jim Hall Live! Vol.2-4 が ArtistShare からリリースされたのも、そういえば同じく2012年、翁ご存命中の時でした。

ともあれ、ファンにとっては大変貴重な音源の追加リリース。これまでの音源とあわせて、末長く味わっていきたいと思います。

Things I learned on Phono EQ curves, Pt. 5

前回 は、トーキー映画用のディスク録音、民生用長時間レコード、放送局用トランスクリプション盤、ベル研/WEの縦振動トランスクリプション盤など、あれこれについて調べました。

On the previous part, I studied on the history of the “sound-on-disc” soundtracks for talking motion pictures, “Program Transcription” long playing record for consumer, Electrical Transcription discs for radio industry, Bell/WE’s vertical transcription technology, etc.

今回はその続きで、放送局用の横振動記録トランスクリプション盤のあれこれ、及び初の録音再生統一カーブ “Orthacoustic” について学んでいきます。

This time, I am going to continue learning the history, including the lateral transcription records, as well as the first recording/reproducing curve ever published – called “Orthacoustic”.

First commercial Direct-to-disc LPs in 1969

In 1969, “the world’s first” “commercial” “Direct-to-disc” microgroove LP records were released, from the Nippon Columbia label. The “Columbia 45rpm Direct Cutting Series” consists of six 45 rpm Direct-to-disc albums.

「世界初」の「市販用」「ダイレクトカッティング」LPレコードがリリースされたのは1969年のこと、日本コロムビアレーベルからでした。シリーズ全6枚、すべて45回転でした。

This wonderful set (containing superb performances in wonderful sound quality) of six records are the very first examples of Direct-to-disc LP records – many of that were produced by various labels around the world and sold mainly in the 1970s.

1970年代に世界中のさまざまなレーベルから、主に「オーディオファイル向け」と銘打ってダイレクトカッティングレコードが大量にリリースされる先駆けとなるものです。実に生々しくそして素晴らしい演奏内容となっています。

Please note that almost all of the 78 rpms (until mid-1940s) were Direct-to-disc records; also, during the microgroove LP years, many of the audio testing records (primarily for audiophiles etc.) were also Direct-to-discs.

また、元々はSP盤の時代、1940年代前半までは、全てのレコードがダイレクトカッティングであったわけですし、LP時代に突入してからも、オーディオチェック用のテストレコードなどは、ダイレクトカッティングで製造されているものが多かったことも記しておきます。

“Fab gear!” MOJO presents 15 customised Beatles covers

3部作ドキュメンタリ「The Beatles: Get Back」はたくさんの発見があって楽しかったですね。かつて中学生〜大学生時代に海賊版レコードを買いまくり聴き込みまくりノートに勝手分析してた（笑）元マニアとしても、Get Back 時代のアングラ音源には大変お世話になったクチです。21世紀に入ってからも、例のCD83枚分の音源「A/B Road」を必死に聴き通した（笑）のも懐かしいです。

その映画のことや、ビートルズの音楽については、いろんなところでディープに分析されていますので、ここでは特に何も書きません。

代わりにここでは、イギリスの音楽雑誌 MOJO Magazine 2021年11月号（9月発行）に付属していたCDについて。

ME-7: Um Senhor Talento / Sérgio Ricardo

2004年頃に ME-10 “Nara Leão” を入手して以来、一時期 ELENCO レーベルのオリジナル盤 の蒐集にハマっていましたが、アロイージオ・ヂ・オリヴェイラ時代のLPのうち7割ほど揃ったところで2014年頃に小休止してしまっていました。

Since I acquired ME-10 “Nara Leão”, I had been obsessed with collecting original Brazilian LP issues of ELENCO label – but in 2014 I decided to take a short break. I have collected approximately 70% of the entire Aloysio de Oliveira catalog.

ここ最近、久しぶりに ELENCO 作品を LP や CD、ストリーミングで聴き込み直していたのですが、そういえばうちにある ME-7 ってセカンドプレスだったなぁ、15年ほど前は比較的適価で入手できてたけど、最近はあまり eBay でも見かけないし、値段もあがってるんやろうなぁ、と、ふと検索をかけたら、茨城県にある Paddy Field RECORDS という中古レコード店に ME-7 のファーストプレスの在庫があるのを見つけ、嬉しくなってオーダーしちゃいました。

Recently I often listen again to those ELENCO recordings, with LPs, CDs, streaming, etc., when I remembered that the copy of ME-7 I have was “second pressing”. Hmmm, 15 years ago vintage ELENCO LPs could be found at fair price with some lock, but I seldom see ELENCO listings on eBay or the likes – I guess the price now might be much higher these days… Then I googled some, and out of nowhere I found a used record shop “Paddy Field RECORDS” in Ibaraki, Japan, and the shop stocks the “first pressing” of ME-7. Without hesitation I soon bought the copy online.
