Boogie 4 Stu: A Tribute To Ian Stewart / Ben Waters
個人的には、ストーンズ全メンバーが勢揃いしたこと自体は、あまり注目点ではなかったりします。ベン・ウォーターズ (Ben Waters) が、イアン・スチュアート (Ian Stewart) ゆかりのブギウギ、R&B の名曲をどう料理してくれるのか、その点がはるかに興味をひかれ、ボーナストラック入りで限定リリースされた 2枚組LP を購入しました。 In my humble opinion, the most interesting part of this album is NOT the fact that all members of The Rolling Stones plays on this album, but how the leader Ben Waters interprets good old Boogie Woogie / R&B tunes connected to the late Ian Stewart… I bought the limited 2LP edition of the album (with bonus tracks). Max Roach a la carte
Last night I picked up two LP albums by Max Roach and put ’em on my turntable to pray R.I.P. Both albums recorded in the 1970s, both released only in Japan, both not so popular as Roach’s other masterpieces, and both not his best albums ever. But they have given me very interesting insights of the percussion artistry of how Max Roach can “sing” with the drums.
Sunrise, Sunset / Sir Roland Hanna and George Mraz
ここ最近、いろんな デュオ演奏 のアルバムを好んで聴いています。二人という形式でしかなし得ない、両者の流れる様な対話が、時に二人だけではなし得ないかの様な音楽的な多様性を生み出すこともあったり。Sir Roland Hanna と George Mraz というスーパーデュオによるこのアルバムも、私にとってはそんな一枚です。LOB レーベルから出たダイレクトカッティング盤です。
Meditation / Toshiko Akiyoshi Quartet
穐吉 (秋吉) 敏子 さんが1971年に Dan レーベルに残したカルテット編成のアルバム「Meditation」です。1976年に再発された際には、ジャケットが変えられ、ミックスもより聴きやすい定位にやり直され、ノーカット完全版や別テイクでの収録となっており、こちらも必聴です。
Lonely Town / Tommy Flanagan
欧米と日本での評価 (というか温度差) が全く異なるミュージシャンというのは、どんな音楽ジャンルでもいるものですね。例えばここで紹介する Tommy Flanagan も、欧米では名サポート役としては評価されているものの、日本での根強いファンの多さに比べると、受け止められ方が随分違うものだなと改めて感じます。
