Universal “Jazz The Best” LP Collection is out

久々に期待していた 今回の日本盤 LP リイシュー。全20タイトル中本日10タイトルが発売されました。さてさて、肝心の「おと」の方はどうでしょう? さすがに全タイトルは買えないので、とりあえず EmArcy の 2タイトルだけ買ってみました。

The long-awaited LP reissue series by Universal Music Japan is out. Among 20 titles in all, 10 titles have been released today. Well, how does they “sound” anyway? I can’t afford to buy all titles, so this time I bought two EmArcy titles.

大人ノ科學マガジン – 蓄音機

[大人の科学マガジン 06号]

レコード愛好家の間で噂の 学研 大人の科学マガジン の 06号「レコード盤録再蓄音機」を遅ればせながら購入しました。

かなりチープな作りとはいえ、実際にパーツを組み立て、音声やら歌やらを録音し再生できること自体はとても素朴で楽しく、ベルリナーが発明した原理を実際に体験できるということは面白いのは勿論なのですが。

私がより感心したのは付属のブックレット。エジソン〜ベルリナーから始まる音の記録とその機械の歴史はもちろんのこと、付属のソノシート作成の際のカッティング工場の様子、そしてもちろんラッカー〜マスター〜マザー〜スタンパーの話まで仔細に書かれており、しかもその文面の節々に「これは相当造詣のある人が監修にあたっているんやろうな」と思わせる香りが漂っています。レコードコレクターやオーディオマニアではない人が読んでも楽しめる様に平易に書かれている反面、マニアが突っ込みをいれそうな箇所では、それらしきこともちゃんと匂わせている。これは凄い。カッティング工場での各工程の写真も非常に興味深いですし、ちゃんとマスタリング/カッティングエンジニアへのインタビューも忘れておらず、あの小鐡徹さんまでひっぱりだしています。

いやはや、これは予想外に面白い号だった様です。実によく構成されていて、レコードというもの/テクノロジーに少しでも興味のある人には文句なしにお勧めです。そこらへんのしょぼいオーディオ雑誌を年間購読するよりも、この号を一冊買って遊び倒して読みつくす方が、どれだけオーディオファイル入門として役に立つことか。

わたし個人的には、知っている話ばかりではありましたが、こういう内容を写真/図版入りで一般人向けに平易に解説していて、しかも付録で実体験できるようになっている、というこの企画には、大変感銘を受けました。

Jazz Impressions of Japan (無言歌) / Jim Hall

1976年の来日時に、こんな素晴らしい演奏とアルバムを残して下さった ジム・ホール (Jim Hall) トリオに感謝すると同時に、彼らにこのアルバム制作のきっかけを与えた日本という国を、我々はもっと誇りに思うべきでしょう。

We Japanese must deeply thank to the Jim Hall Trio, who left such a great performance on this album (recorded in 1976 during their live tour to Japan). Also, we must be very proud of this country Japan, where Jim Hall had so many impressions which was definitely a fundamental background of this album.

Universal “Jazz The Best” LP Collection

Universal Music Japan が，(旧日本ポリドール，旧日本フォノグラムの頃から) 久しぶりに LP 再発 を行います．2004年12月22日リリース，全20タイトルです．

Universal Music Japan will release 20 famous Jazz titles in LP format on December 22, 2004. It will be a long time since Nippon Polydor and Nippon Phonogram (both labels were the predecessors of Universal Music Japan) released LPs last.

今回の再発の目玉は，そのタイトル群ではなく (もちろん，どれも Impulse, Verve, EmArcy, Philips レーベルなどの著名な人気盤であることは間違いないです)，オリジナル・アナログ・カッティング・マスターを使用してニューヨークにて現地カッティング という点でしょう．カッティングエンジニアは Joseph M. Palamaccio さんだそうです．さる有力筋からの情報によると，音質的にもかなり期待できるとのこと．

The most remarkable point is not each title itself (of course all titles in the series include very famous masterpieces from Impulse, Verve, EmArcy, Philips labels), but that all titles were cut in the US using original analogue master tapes. The cutting engineer for this reissue series is Joseph M. Palamaccio. According to a certain influential person’s note, this series will provide very nice sounds which will surely convince audiophiles.

Eddie Kramer – Woodstock interview

オーディオファイル向けに，過去の名盤や注目の新譜の丁寧な LP リイシューをコンスタントに行ってくれている Classic Records レーベルが， あの “Jimi Hendrix Live at Woodstock” を 200g QUIEX SV-P LP 3枚組 でリリースしました． 私ももちろん CD は持っていますが，この LP リリースも購入予定です．

The famous Classic Records label – constantly releases high-quality pressings of historical masterpiece albums (and some LP releases of recent titles) which have been highly acclaimed – is releasing a 200g QUIEX SV-P LP 3LP box edition of THAT album “Jimi Hendrix Live at Woodstock”. Of course I have this great album in CD format, but I am planning to buy this LP release too.

オーディオファイル向け LP/CD オンラインショップの Acoustic Sounds Inc. の web で，あの Eddie Kramer へのインタビューが公開されています．インタビューは，Classic Records レーベルのオーナー Michael Hobson さんによって行われたものです．

And along that LP release, Acoustic Sounds Inc., an on-line LP/CD shop specially for audiophiles, is now making an interview with Eddie Kramer public. The interview was done by Michael Hobson, an owner of Classic Records label.

ELENCO Discography (original LPs)

[ELENCO] Bossa Nova 誕生を鮮やかに告げたとされる Joao Gilbelto (ジョアン・ジルベルト) の 1959年リリース LP “Chega De Saudade” でプロデューサを務めた Aloysio De Oliveira (アロイージオ・ヂ・オリヴェイラ) がオデオンやフィリップスを離れて作ったレーベル、 そして全身全霊を傾けてプロデュースした珠玉の作品群が未だに高い評価を受けているレーベル、 ELENCO。

The famous and highly-acclaimed ELENCO label – produced by the legendary Aloysio De Oliveira. He devotedly produced a number of fine Bossa Nova albums after he left Odeon and Philips. He was also known as a producer of legendary 1959 album “Chega De Saudade” (performed by Joao Gilbelto), which was a very start of Bossa Nova’s public release.

私がここ暫くこのレーベル蒐集にハマっていまして、整理の意味も兼ねて、アルバムリストを掲載します。また、各 LP のページ (より詳しいデータやジャケット写真など) のページも順次作成していく予定です。

Recently I’ve been into collecting Elenco LPs, and that’s why I started to put here a list of all Elenco LPs. Also, I think I will put pages dedicated to each Elenco LPs (including detailed information and scanned images) in the near future.
