ノーマン・グランツ氏が Mercury と契約して、ジャズ音源をリリースしていたのは1948年〜1953年の5年間であることは知られていますが、当時の The Billboard 誌で具体的な日時を特定しました。契約開始は1948年7月最終週、Clef レーベルとして独立したのは1953年8月1日でした。

Roy DuNann, one of the greatest recording enginners
If you are into Jazz music, especially into the golden age of Modern Jazz, you should know the name of the engineer Roy DuNann, who did so many masterpiece recordings for Capitol and Contemporary in the 1940s, 1950s and thrugh the early 1960s. ジャズ、特に全盛期のモダンジャズが大好きな方であれば、伝説の録音エンジニア ロイ・デュナン 氏の名前はもちろんご存知だと思います。最初はキャピトルレーベル（〜1956年）で、続いてコンテンポラリーレーベル（1956年〜1960年代前半）で、数えきれない程の名盤とうたわれる素晴らしいレコーディングに携わってこられた方です。
Subconscious-Lee c/w Judy / Lennie Tristano Quintet
Prestige レーベルの前身 New Jazz レーベルの最初のリリースは、Lennie Tristano の “Subconscious-Lee c/w Judy” (New Jazz 80.001) という78回転盤でした。New Jazz 808 や Prestige 808 がリイシューとなります。

Cross Patch c/w Cabin In The Sky / Fats Waller
ファッツ・ウォーラー (Fats Waller) の 1936年「Cross Patch」、そのあまりの美しくメランコリックかつ可愛らしい演奏に魅了されました。B面の「Cabin In The Sky」は、後年 Thelonious Monk が「Pannonica」で聞かせたセレステによる演奏のよう。
