マリのコラ奏者 トゥマニ・ジャバテ (Toumani Diabaté) のコンピレーション。2009年リリース。
CD 2枚組で、1枚目は自己名義のアルバム（1988〜1999）からの選曲が中心、同じくマリ出身のコラ奏者、NØ FØRMAT! レーベル での諸作も人気のバラケ・シソコ (Ballaké Sissoko) との共演も含む。ただただ美しい調べと響きが心地よい（アルバムによってホールエコー成分多めのものもあり）。
2枚目はタジ・マハール (Taj Mahal) やホセ・ソト (José Soto)、ダニー・トンプソン (Danny Thompson) などとの共演アルバムからピックアップされたコラボレーション集、ブルースやジャズ、フラメンコなどとマリの民族音楽のフュージョン的な楽曲から、コラの可能性を堪能できる。
オーディオ的にも優れた録音が多く、同時にマリの伝統音楽入門としても、コラ（楽器）の幅広い可能性を楽しめる良質なコンピレーションとしても、最適な盤。
アイク & ティナ・ターナー (Ike & Tina Turner) のバックコーラスとしてスタートし、単独でも人気グループとなった アイケッツ (The Ikettes)。その Modern レーベル時代、Jessie Smith, Robbie Montgomery, Venetta Fields という黄金期の3人時代の集大成となる、聴き応え満点の好編集盤 です。

2015年の初著 の（精神的な）続編を上梓します。

エディ・ボー (Eddie Bo)。知る人ぞ知る、なんでしょうか、ニューオーリンズの至宝。自己名義での大ヒット作には恵まれることはありませんでしたが、ニューオーリンズ R&B 〜 ニューオーリンズソウル 〜 ニューオーリンズファンク、そしてジャズ、と、その才能を遺憾無く発揮した自己名義作品、および幾多のプロデュース作品で知られます。アーマ・トーマス (Irma Thomas) やアート・ネヴィル (Art Neville) など錚々たるメンバとの共演やプロデュースでも知られています。また、リトル・リチャード (Little Richard) のヒット曲 “Slippin’ And Slidin’” の元ネタ（パクリ元）がエディ・ボーの1956年シングル “I’m Wise” であることも有名です。
彼の全盛期の作品は、もともとシングルリリースしかされていないものが多く（もちろんオリジナル盤は入手困難）、そして自己名義に加えてプロデューサとしての作品も多く、結果としていろんなコンピレーションに数曲収録されているのがほとんどなので、全貌をとらえるのがすごく難しかったのですが、さすがに21世紀ともなればいろいろ出ていたり聴けたりするようになってきていますので、それを個人的備忘録的にまとめておこう、というのがこの記事の目的です。
Continue readingThe Who のアルバム、The Who Sell Out の スーパーデラックスエディション がリリースされました。個人的には、ファーストアルバム よりも Live at Leeds よりも大好きな、思い入れのあるアルバムですし、ブックレットの解説も読みたいので、5CD + 7インチシングル2枚組セットの輸入盤を買いました。
Super Deluxe Edition release of The Who’s seminal album “The Who Sell Out” is out. This album is personal favourite, compared even with their 1st album and “Live at Leeds” – and I’d like to read the liner-notes on the gorgeous booklet, so I bought the 5CD + 2 x 7″ 45rpm box set.
で、今どきらしく、ハイレゾダウンロードでもリリースされているのですが、微妙に収録曲が異なることに気付きました。たとえば 5CD版（108曲収録） には 1-25 “Sunn Amps promo spots” や 1-26 “Great Shakes ad” が収録されているのに、ハイレゾダウンロード版（105曲収録） にはない。逆に、ハイレゾダウンロード版には 25 “Our Love Was (take 12, rejected mono mix)” があるのに、5CD版には収録されてない、などです。この辺りの事情をまとめたサイトとかあったりしないですかね。。。
This comprehensive album is also released in the hi-res download format, and I noticed some of the contents (and track order) are different from the physical release. For example, the 5CD box (108 tracks) contains 1-25 “Sunn Amps promo spots” and 1-26 “Great Shakes ad”, while the hi-res download version (105 tracks) doesn’t; download version contains 25 “Our Love Was (take 12, rejected mono mix)” while the 5CD box doesn’t. Does anyone know about it, or does anyone know the websites describing the difference?
2025/06/13 追記: で、どこにも情報がまとまっていないようだったので、5CD版とハイレゾダウンロード版の違いを調べてみました。

さらに、少なくとも Apple Music ストリーミング版 は、両者を合成した 全114曲収録 となっていることに気づきました。。。おかしいですね、私の記憶では、2021年当時は、ストリーミング版も105曲のみ公開されていたはずなのですが。。。
Furthermore, I noticed that at least the Apple Music streaming version contains a total of 114 songs, which is a combination of both versions… That’s strange, because as I recall, in 2021, only 105 tracks were available on the streaming version…
2003年に中古で購入した GyroDec Mk.III のアップグレードもついに最終章、この2つのアップグレードで「あがり」にしたいと思います。

Continue reading GyroDec Mk.III に施した DC モーター + True Point Audio 電源ユニットによるアップグレード （これはACモータ故障によるものでしたが）に続いて、以前から気になっていたサスペンションアップグレードを行いました。これが予想以上の効果をもたらし、過去に行った GyroDec アップグレードのなかで最もコストパフォーマンスに優れる顕著な再生音向上をもたらしてくれました。全 GyroDec ユーザにおすすめです。
After I did DC Motor + True Point Audio PSU upgrade to my GyroDec Mk.III (although it was meant for replacing a failed AC motor), I tried another upgrade provided by third-parties, this time for GyroDec’s suspension system. The result was really stunning against my initial expectation – now I believe this upgrade is “MUST” for all the GyroDec users; one of the best among what I’ve done in the past – the best value for money indeed.

GyroDec では、初代 Mk.I から2000年頃のモデル Mk.IV まで Papst AC モータ（901 3520 001）が使われていましたが、Papst 社が当該モータの製造を1999年頃に中止してしまったため、2001年以降に製造されている GyroDec では、現在入手可能な新品でも、DC モータが採用されています。
GyroDec, since its beginning Mk.I until 2000 Mk.IV, had synchronous Papst AC Motor (901 3520 001) installed. However, Papst discontinued the particular motor in 1999 (and J.A. Michell used the last batch of motors until 2000), and post-2000 GyroDec (Mk.V) adopts DC Motor instead.
国内外の各種オークションサイトなどを探しても、Papst AC モータの中古やデッドストックは滅多に見つかりません。かといって、AC モータが搭載されている中古の GyroDec を買うのも本末転倒です。なにより、レコードを聴けなくなる期間が長くなるのは辛いので、あきらめて DC モータを調達する方向で考えることにしました。
Unfortunately, few used units (or “new old stock” or “deadstock”) of the Papst AC Motor cannot be found on market all around the world. And it’s kind of absurd to look for another used GyroDec with the AC Motor installed. Furthermore, it was really painful for me that I could not enjoy spinning records – that’s why I started thinking of obtaining a brand new DC Motor.
