Boogie 4 Stu: A Tribute To Ian Stewart / Ben Waters

個人的には、ストーンズ全メンバーが勢揃いしたこと自体は、あまり注目点ではなかったりします。ベン・ウォーターズ (Ben Waters) が、イアン・スチュアート (Ian Stewart) ゆかりのブギウギ、R&B の名曲をどう料理してくれるのか、その点がはるかに興味をひかれ、ボーナストラック入りで限定リリースされた 2枚組LP を購入しました。

In my humble opinion, the most interesting part of this album is NOT the fact that all members of The Rolling Stones plays on this album, but how the leader Ben Waters interprets good old Boogie Woogie / R&B tunes connected to the late Ian Stewart… I bought the limited 2LP edition of the album (with bonus tracks).

Feb. 3, 1932: The First Stereo Sound Recording Known To Exist

時は1932年2月3日。現存する最古のステレオ録音（とみなすことができるもの）が記録されました（ただし、意図的にステレオ録音されたものではなかった、とされてはいますが）。デューク・エリントン (Duke Ellington) オーケストラによるメドレー録音です。その6日後にも、別のメドレーが録音されました。

It was on February 3, 1932 when the oldest stereo recording known to exist was waxed (although it was not an “intended stereo recording” but an “accidental stereo recording”) – a seven minute medley by Duke Ellington and His Orchestra.

Sonic Youth have been active for 30 years into their career – simply amazing.

こういう類のリサーチ本が、日本ではなくてアメリカから出てくるのは興味深いです。こういう細かいことに拘る方は、日本人コレクターの方が圧倒的に多い印象がありますから。。。

きっと、我こそは我こそは、と、この本の記載の間違い探しを始めるコレクターさんが出てくるんでしょうね。

私はやりませんよ、ええ（笑）

というか最近、中古レコード屋さん、殆ど行ってないなぁ。。。遠い目。

Verve MGV-8029 としてリリースされた「Stan Getz ’57」のオリジナルイシューとされる、Norgran MGN-1087「Stan Getz ’56」の現物をお持ちの方（あるいは「持っている人を知っている」「見たことある」でも構いません）がいらっしゃいましたら、ぜひわたくしまでご一報下さい。残念ながら私は実物を見たことがありません。

Anyone has an original copy of Norgran MGN-1087 “Stan Getz ’56”? This has been said as the original issue of Verve MGV-8029 “Stan Getz ’57”. Drop me a line if you have that copy (or if you know a person who owns that copy, or even if you have seen that copy). Unfortunately I have never seen the actual copy.


現在 ハリー・ワインガー さんが作業中のスタン・ゲッツの CD ボックスで使用する予定の、ジャケット写真およびレーベル写真を探しているとこのことです。

Currently Mr. Harry Weinger has been looking for the jacket scan and the label scan of the Norgran MGN-1087, as he’s been working on a Stan Getz CD boxset project.

Record Makers and Breakers (John Broven), Pt.2

昨年11月にここで紹介した Record Makers and Breakers – voices of the independent Rock ‘n’ Roll Pioneers – があまりにも面白いので最近再びハマってます。

もう通しで何回目かになりますが、毎日ちょっとづつ読んでは「おお〜」と声をあげ、うなりながら読んでます。

音楽およびそれにまつわる歴史という意味では、アーティスト、ミュージシャン、プロデューサ、エンジニアももちろんのこと、やはりアーティストと契約し、レコードを生産し、販売していた「レーベル」という側面からの切り口も絶対に欠かすことはできない 〜全てが複雑に絡み合っての音楽史〜 であるなーと、改めて思いが至っているところです。

いやはや、ほんまにおもろい。個人的リサーチ対象であるMercury レーベルについての情報もやはりてんこ盛りで、数年前から少しづつ手元で整理・書き溜めているマーキュリーレーベルのドキュメントにも、多数新しい視点と客観的情報を与えてくれます。

78rpms Pick-ups: Oct. 31, 2009

土曜日、奇跡的に自宅で一人の時間が少し生じたので、ハカイダーの心配をすることなく (笑) SP 盤を久し振りに聴くことが出来ました。きもちえがったー。

Saturday – I could have a precious time to be alone at home – without ‘the destroyer’ – my two-years-old daughter – so I could enjoy listening to several 78rpm records this afternoon. It was just fun indeed!

うたううあ / UA

二才児が聴いても楽しめ、音楽好きの大人が毎日聴かされても全く飽きることのない、UA さんによる良質のコンセプトアルバム的名盤です。子供の有無に関わらず、全日本人必聴ともいえます。

This CD album is a kind of “masterpiece” with good conception – my two-years-old daughter loves to listen to this every day, and I as a music addict won’t get bored even I have to listen with her every day. It can also be said that every Japanese, whether he/she has a child or not, should listen to this album.

The Bright Mississippi / Allen Toussaint

(This entry is my casual review on Allen Toussaint’s brand new album. I don’t think the English version of this article will be available this time . . .)

音楽のダウンロード販売も非常にポピュラーになってきたこのご時世、国内の音楽となると、さすがに LP での新譜リリースというのはほとんどみかけなくなりましたが、海外では音楽ジャンルによっては LP での同時リリースも (限定販売的であることが多いものの) 根強く残っているようです。

私の場合、LP でリリースされない音源を買わない、なんてことはさすがにありませんが、CD と LP の両方のフォーマットでリリースされると分かった盤については、躊躇なく LP で買ってしまいます。

それにしても、CD でも出ているのに、どうしていまさら LP の方で買ってしまいたくなるのか。
